NEW DELHI: Continuing with his anti politician tirade , former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi now dragged BJP leader and MP Varun Gandhi into controversy sorrounding him. In a series of tweets, Lalit Modi has claimed BJP MP “Varun Gandhi came to meet him at his house in London a few years ago”. Last night in a series of tweets, he said that Varun Gandhi visited him in London a few years ago and said that he will settle everything with the help of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. He had even alleged that Varun Gandhi offered to mediate with the Congress in exchange for money.
Varun Gandhi today rejected the claim made by of Lalit Modi. Mr. Gandhi is understood to have said that Lalit Modi is trying to divert attention from himself and drag the names of senior leaders unnecessarily.
BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said that Lalit Modi is trying to hide his misdeeds by making such allegations. Another party leader Ram Madhav took a dig at Congress for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Lalit Modi controversy.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Mr Madhav said the allegations against Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Ministers Sushma Swaraj are baseless and do not deserve Prime Minister’s reaction.
Meanwhile, BJP MP rejected the claim of Lalit Modi is trying to divert attention by dragging the names of senior leaders in the controversy. The BJP also came in support of its MP, with party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain saying Varun Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are in different parties and the world knows about the ties between them.
In the meantime, reports suggested that Lalit Modi had offered a post to Swaraj Kaushal, the husband of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in his company which was turned down by Mr. Kaushal. Reacting to reports, Swaraj Kaushal said he has been lawyer for Lalit Modi for over 20 years and he was offered the post of Alternate Director in a company to which he did not give his consent.
