TURIN / MUMBAI — Tata Motors Limited and Iveco Group N.V. have officially launched a global commercial mobility enterprise, establishing the world’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
The combined entity creates an industrial footprint generating over €21 billion (₹2,28,000+ crore) in revenue and total sales volumes of approximately 590,000 units.
The strategic alliance unites Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, with Turin-headquartered Iveco Group, a global player in commercial vehicles, buses, and powertrains. The combined presence spans over 130 countries across Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, supported by 27 manufacturing plants, 25 R&D centres, and 9,300 sales and service touchpoints.
Announcing the launch at a global press meet in Turin, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors, and Iveco Group, described the move as a defining step for sustainable transport.
“Two strong and successful organisations, united by shared values and a common commitment to sustainable mobility, have come together to create a truly global commercial mobility enterprise. We will invest for the long term, enable ideas and capabilities to flow in both directions, and harness our combined scale,” Chandrasekaran stated.
Under the partnership, Iveco Group will maintain its headquarters in Turin, Italy, preserving its existing operational footprint, brand identities, and strategy. Tata Motors will support Iveco’s current investment plans while collaborating on engineering, sourcing, software, and powertrain technologies.
The portfolio integration leverages complementary geographical and product strengths. Tata Motors commands a strong presence in emerging markets with vehicles ranging from sub-1-tonne cargo vehicles to 55-tonne trucks and mass-transit solutions. Iveco Group holds established market positions in Europe and Latin America across light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles, alongside its FPT powertrain unit.
Girish Wagh, MD & CEO of Tata Motors, highlighted the operational synergies: “Our complementary portfolios, capabilities, and geographic strengths provide a strong foundation for growth, while ensuring continuity from day one for customers, dealers, and partners.”
Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group, called the partnership a milestone that unlocks new global possibilities.
The combined workforce of 73,000 employees will drive joint developments in alternative energy, zero-emission technologies, hydrogen, battery-electric systems, and connected vehicle software. Existing customer contracts, dealer networks, warranties, and financing agreements across both companies will remain unchanged.
