Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that a new world order is emerging, as the old world order is unable to address the challenges facing the world. He said India will play a key role in this new world order and called for the collective well-being of humankind.

Delivering the keynote address on ‘A World Between Orders’ at a summit in New Delhi Thursday , the Prime Minister said the advent of technology has given rise to new powers and new voices. He said India is strengthening its own capabilities to help strengthen the world.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need for reforms in multilateral organisations. He added that the voice of the Global South deserves its due place. He stated that international cooperation should not be limited to good times, but remain effective during crises.

The Prime Minister stated that India is working towards becoming one of the world’s three largest economies and said that, despite global uncertainties, India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. He put forth the vision of “Power to Empower”, saying Viksit Bharat is not just about India’s own progress but also a guarantee of a better world. Mr Modi said that as India moves towards self-reliance, it strengthens global supply chains. He stated that India is now collaborating with the world not merely as a back office, but as a brain office. Pointing out that India hosts over half of the world’s Global Capability Centres, the Prime Minister explained that these hubs have pivoted from basic support services to advanced AI, cloud computing, engineering, analytics and product development.

Mr Modi cautioned that while the world is searching for a new order, some people are dreaming of disorder in India. He said the image of a strong India should be known globally at a time when there is so much chaos in the world. He said some people are trying to malign India’s reputation. Taking a dig at Congress, Mr Modi said some people go abroad and defame India.

At the same event, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said that, in many cases of unrest worldwide, there has been external encouragement and support from people who see such situations as a tool to advance their agenda. Replying to a question, Dr Jaishankar remarked that turbulence and volatility have continuously increased as the world has changed, borderless politics has grown, technology has spread and the world economy has become globalised.
