Indian equity benchmarks declined for a second straight session on Wednesday as rising crude oil prices and losses in heavyweight stocks weighed on sentiment. The Sensex fell 143.21 points, or 0.19%, to 73,709.69, while the Nifty 50 shed 77.60 points, or 0.34%, to 22,811.35. Brent crude climbed above $110 a barrel, fuelling concerns over inflation, import costs and corporate margins. Broader markets underperformed, with the Nifty SmallCap 250 tumbling 2.26%. IT and cement stocks bucked the weak trend. Meanwhile, Jio Platforms’ IPO attracted strong demand, garnering 2.99 times subscription on its opening day.
