The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC) has urged the Central Government to establish an All India Institute of Unani Medicine (AIIMS Unani) in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter addressed to the Union Government, AIUTC National President Professor Mushtaq Ahmad highlighted resolutions passed during the organization’s recent Jammu & Kashmir General Body meeting. He emphasized that establishing a premier Unani institute in Kashmir is a critical need for the country’s healthcare framework.

Key Highlights & Demands:
- Unfulfilled Promise:Prof. Mushtaq noted that following the setup of AIIMS Ayurveda in 2004, the government had promised to establish an AIIMS Unani, but no tangible progress has been made so far.
- Capitalizing on FY 2026–27 Expansion: With the Ministry of AYUSH planning to open three new AYIMS-level AYUSH institutes in the 2026–27 financial year, AIUTC urged the government to prioritize Srinagar for the Unani facility.
- Global Recognition & Development: AIUTC highlighted that a central Unani institute in J&K will accelerate research and development in traditional medicine, encourage healthcare professionals, and elevate India’s reputation in global alternative medicine.
The AIUTC has requested prompt, concrete steps from the Ministry of AYUSH to turn the long-standing proposal into reality.
