Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has called for setting up an India-Bangladesh Joint Centre of Research in Ayurveda to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Speaking at a programme marking the 11th Ayurveda Day at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday (September 23) Trivedi said traditional knowledge systems remained relevant in promoting holistic well-being and preventive healthcare.
He said a joint research centre could encourage greater academic and professional exchanges and further strengthen the longstanding ties between India and Bangladesh.
The programme, organised by the IGCC under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow”, included an academic session, workshop and cultural programme.
IGCC Director Ann Mary George highlighted the role of India’s Ministry of AYUSH in promoting Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.
The event also featured a workshop involving students from Ayurvedic institutions in Bangladesh, along with cultural performances and the unveiling of a Ganpati tapestry by Bangladeshi artist Shahin Sobhana Surovi.
Certificates were distributed among participants from several Ayurvedic and Unani institutions at the end of the programme.
