At least 19 people were injured after a Russian barrage of missiles and drones targeted Ukraine’s capital and surrounding region overnight this morning. The attacks hit more than 10 locations in Kyiv and damaged 33 sites across the wider region. Further south in Odesa, seven people were injured and a Russian drone struck a Tanzanian-flagged merchant ship, killing its captain and injuring three crew members.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces launched retaliatory strikes against a military airfield in Rostov and an oil refinery in Yaroslavl. Meanwhile, Moscow claimed its military hit Ukrainian energy, industrial, and transport infrastructure, including vessels at the port of Chornomorsk.

The escalation comes as peace efforts remain stalled over territorial concessions and security guarantees. Zelenskyy said Ukraine would only halt its strikes if Russia ceases attacks on Ukrainian energy sites. In a separate development, Ukrainian officials today said they had received the bodies of 252 fallen soldiers as part of an ongoing exchange of war dead with Russia.
