Nepal celebrates the new year today with festivities across the country. Baisakh 1 is marked as the first day of the Bikram Sambat calendar. It is a national holiday celebrated with joyous gatherings, temple visits, and cultural festivals like Biska Jatra. The day symbolises fresh beginnings, resolution, and cultural pride throughout Nepal.

Most of the temples across Nepal are crowded today when people are queuing to seek blessings from the divine. Tourist places and picnic spots are especially witnessing a huge crowd. Hotels and restaurants are offering special discounts, live music, and cultural programs to attract customers. Kathmandu Valley is especially bubbling with festivity, with several programmes on the New Year being organised in different localities.

On the occasion, newly elected Prime Minister of Nepal Balendra Shah has expressed his best wishes on the occasion of the New Year 2083 BS, urging everyone to fulfil their responsibilities in nation building with full dedication.
