The United Arab Emirates’ air defence systems intercepted and engaged nine unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran on Wednesday, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.

According to WAM, to the Ministry of Defence, since the beginning of what it described as Iranian aggression, the UAE’s air defence network has successfully countered 357 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,815 drones targeting the country.

The ongoing attacks have resulted in the death of three members of the UAE Armed Forces while performing their national duty. In addition, six foreign nationals—from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Palestine—have been killed during the strikes.

Authorities said 166 people have been injured, with wounds ranging from minor to severe. The injured include nationals from several countries such as the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden and Tunisia.

The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed that the UAE remains fully prepared to respond to any threat and will take decisive action against attempts to undermine the country’s security.

Officials stressed that the armed forces will continue to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, stability and strategic interests while ensuring the protection of its people and infrastructure.
