AAIB to investigate plane crash at Baramati Airport that killed Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will investigate the plane crash at Baramati Airport that killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others today. The Director General of AAIB is reaching the accident site for investigation. The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed that the AAIB team has departed from Delhi to Pune and will proceed to Baramati to inspect the site and begin the investigation.

The Civil Aviation Ministry informed that the aircraft VI-SSK first came in contact with Baramati at 8:18 AM in the morning. It added that the aircraft reported on the final approach of Runway 11 of the airport, but the runway was not in sight, so they initiated a go-around on the first approach. After the go-around, the aircraft was asked about its position, and the aircraft reported that the runway was not in sight and would inform when the runway was in sight.

The Ministry informed that the aircraft was cleared to land on runway 11 at 8:43 AM, but did not give a readback of the landing clearance. At 8:44 AM, the ATC saw the flames around the threshold of runway 11. The emergency services then rushed to the crash site.
