AIADMK supremo Jayalithaa is all set to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, for the fifth time. AIADMK party MLAs will be meeting in a day or two to decide on the plan of action. AIADMK Ministers and party MLAs are camping in Chennai waiting for orders from the party leader. Party workers all over the state are in a jubilant mood after celebrating the release of their leader from all charges in the disproportionate assets case.
The euphoria over Karnataka High Court acquitting former Tamil Nadu chief Minister Jayalaithaa has not died down in the state, AIADMK chief whip Manoharan told AIR that Jayalaithaa will be taking charge as Chief Minister soon. The party seems to wait for the directions from Jayalithaa and then O Paneerselvam will resign as Chief Minister. Only then AIADMK party MLAs can elect Jayalaithaa as the legislative party leader. After that the letter of support by party MLAs will be given to Governor Dr K Rosaiah.
Then the day of taking over as Chief Minister will be announced. Jayalalithaa had taken over as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu four times in 1991, 2001, 2002 and 2011. With the Bangalore special court sentencing her for four years in the disproportionate assets case on September 27 last year she had to resign from the post of Chief Minister. She also lost her legislative member status and by-election was held in Srirangam in which AIADMK candidate won. Now with Assembly elections to be held in Tamil Nadu next year it is to be seen whether Jayalaithaa will fight another by-election or go for an early Assembly election.
