The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has ruled out any alliance with the ousted Awami League, calling it a “fallen fascist party.”
“There is no secret alliance. We must remain alert to ensure that those who once cooperated with Awami League don’t change their stance,” BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Wednesday after paying tribute at founder Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam’s grave.
Accompanied by leaders from Pirojpur and Barguna BNP committees, Rizvi urged party members to strengthen the organisation at grassroots level to secure support for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.
He also criticised the government for “failing to handle the New York incident,” alleging its incompetence emboldened “allies of fascism” abroad. Denying rumours of an assault on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in New York, he said, “No one attacked him. These are false, baseless propaganda campaigns.”
Rizvi further slammed the Anti-Corruption Commission, calling it “so powerless that it has failed to recover stolen assets or bring back corrupt individuals.”
Highlighting leadership contributions, he praised Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman. “After Khaleda Zia was imprisoned, Tarique led the party with a nationalistic vision, organising it at home and abroad and inspiring the youth in the struggle for democracy. His role will never be forgotten,” Rizvi said.
