Punjab is grappling with one of its worst flood crises in recent times, with more than 1,900 villages submerged and standing crops across 4 lakh acres destroyed. The death toll has climbed to 43, and thousands of families are displaced.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who visited the state to assess the situation, assured that the Centre will fully support Punjab in overcoming this calamity. He said funds have already been released under the State Disaster Relief Fund, while two central teams are evaluating the losses.

In a show of solidarity, Aam Aadmi Party parliamentarians have pledged to divert their MPLADS funds for relief measures. Meanwhile, Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has urged the Centre to announce an immediate relief package to help farmers and affected communities.

As rivers swell from heavy rains and water released from dams, the administration, along with the Army, BSF, NDRF, police, and local volunteers, is engaged in large-scale rescue and relief work. Nearly 21,000 people have already been evacuated to safer zones. District authorities continue to appeal to residents in low-lying areas to move to secure locations.

Despite unprecedented losses, the resilience of Punjab’s people remains unshaken, as they join hands with relief agencies to strengthen embankments and fight back the disaster.

As thousands of families face displacement and destruction, the unbreakable spirit of Punjab stands tall, unshaken, united, and unstoppable.

The Ludhiana district administration has issued a high alert after an embankment in the eastern part of the district came under intense pressure due to the heavy flow of water from the Sutlej. Authorities have warned that several villages are at the risk of flooding if the embankment weakens further.
