After setback in Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, the Congress Party’s highest decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), will meet tomorrow (Friday) to discuss concerns over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and formulate a national strategy to push for the return of ballot papers.
The primary agenda for the meeting will be to address the EVM issue and engage with partners in the INDIA alliance on the matter.
The party has been shaken by the results of the Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections, which have served as a wake-up call. Senior leaders are reportedly unwilling to accept the defeat, with the EVM issue creating a deep divide within the party. Some old-guard leaders are particularly resistant to the idea of EVM manipulation, according to sources.
In light of recent electoral setbacks, there is growing consensus among party veterans that reverting to ballot papers may be the only viable solution moving forward.
