NEW DELHI-The 130-year old Congress party created history when it became the first political party in India to launch online membership drive, making full use of modern technology and social media, here. Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh became the first to take Online membership when he, along with his wife Gursharan Kaur, were enrolled as Congress members by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken at the launch at Dr Singh’s residence here today. Dr Singh’s membership was renewed after five years.
DPCC president Ajay Maken said the new membership drive through “smart channels” would give easy access to people who want to become members of the Congress party in a transparent manner, as now there were four methods of becoming a Congress member. He said the online membership drive would be in addition to the existing traditional form of becoming a member by filling up the membership form after collecting the form booklets from the DPCC office/ District Congress Committee office. He said the online membership drive was primarily intended to enroll lakhs of young people, who want to join the Congress party.
Maken, terming it as a “historic membership drive”, said anybody could now become a Congress member through website, mobile App, facebook and physical form (by filling the forms in the traditional manner).
