In Pakistan, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi till October 17 to maintain the law and order situation during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be held in Islamabad on the 15th and 16th of this month. Section 144 of Pakistan allows the government to prohibit various forms of political assemblies, gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, and similar activities for a specified period. In Rawalpindi, this restriction will be in effect for a week until October 17.
Meanwhile, the central government of Pakistan has deployed troops from the Pakistan Army in Islamabad from October 5 to 17, under Article 245 of the Constitution, to maintain law and order during the summit. Officials have also announced the closure of marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes for five days in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also travel to Islamabad to attend the SCO Summit this month.
