In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket, India registered their biggest-ever margin of victory in Women’s T20 World Cup history, beating Sri Lanka by 82 runs in the Group ‘A’ match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai last night. Opting to bat first, the Indian women put up a daunting score of 172 runs, thanks to the quickfire 52 by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and a fearless 50 by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Chasing a target of 173 runs, Sri Lanka were all out for 90 runs in 19.5 overs.

For Sri Lanka, Kaveesha Dilhari with 21 runs was the top scorer. For India, Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana took three wickets each, while Renuka Singh Thakur scalped two wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur was declared Player of the Match. The win also helped the Women in Blue go above Pakistan and New Zealand in Group A, as well as cross the latter’s net run rate. With the loss, Sri Lanka, the Asian Women’s Champions, are officially out of the tournament.
