Aam Aadmi Party today announced that senior party leader Atishi will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She was elected as the leader of the AAP Legislative Party during the party MLAs meeting in New Delhi.
Talking to media the meeting, City Minister Gopal Rai said it has been unanimously decided that until the next assembly elections, Atishi will be Chief Minister. He said the AAP wants the assembly election in Delhi to be held in October- November this year. Mr. Rai accused the BJP of conspiring to finish the AAP.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Designate Atishi thanked the party chief and said that she will continue to work hard and let the schemes continue for the people of Delhi.
Two days back, after coming out of jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that he would resign from his post. Mr. Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena this evening to tender his resignation. Meanwhile, the BJP took a dig at AAP, saying just changing the face will not change the party’s character. Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva told the media that the AAP is indulged in corruption and it has to give the answer of corruption of the last ten years under the leadership of Mr. Kejriwal.
There is only one CM of Delhi and that is Arvind Kejriwal, says Atishi
Hours after she was picked by Arvind Kejriwal as his successor, Atishi said she will run the government under the guidance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and thanked him for trusting her with the “biggest responsibility”.
While addressing a press conference, Atishi said, “There is only one CM of Delhi and that is Arvind Kejriwal… Our sole objective will be to make him CM again”. “First of all, I want to thank Delhi’s beloved Chief Minister and my guru Arvind Kejriwal for giving me such a big responsibility. I am a normal politician and I don’t think I would have even got a ticket if I were in any other party but Kejriwal ji has shown so much faith in me. I will fulfil my responsibilities,” said the 43-year-old senior AAP leader.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hatching conspiracy and keeping Kejriwal in jail for six months in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, she said the Supreme Court gave him bail and a tight slap on the Centre by calling its investigating agency a caged parrot. “What Arvind Kejriwal did after coming out of jail was not done anywhere in the world or been done by any leader in the world. He said he would sit on the seat of CM only after the people of Delhi certify his honesty,” said Atishi.
