Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the island has gained the support of friendly nations, including India and Japan, in its journey towards progress. Speaking at an election rally in the eastern part of the island, he emphasized that in partnership with the Indian government, Trincomalee will see extensive development. The leftist alliance candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that his government would make the country a place where everyone could live in unity and harmony. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police have arrested eight people in connection with the attack on supporters of the National People’s Power, who were returning from an election rally on Friday. Police Media Spokesperson and DIG Nihal Thalduwa told local media outlets that the police arrested six suspects on Saturday, and two more yesterday.
