Bangladesh’s Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has resigned following protests demanding a revamp of the judiciary. Bangladesh Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof. Asif Nazrul in a social media post said today that the Chief Justice has resigned and the resignation letter has already reached the Law Ministry. He further added that the resignation letter will be sent to the President without delay for necessary measures. The Chief Justice announced earlier today that he had decided to step down from his position. His decision came after a student protest this morning. Earlier today, students, advocates, and others gathered on the Supreme Court premises, demanding that the Chief Justice and other judges resign by 1 this afternoon or face a siege of their residences.
