NEW DELHI: (AMN) Going deep into probe of alleged irregularities in the conduct of Commonwealth Games, the CBI on Friday carried out searches at the residential Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi and his aide in Delhi, Mumbai  and Pune. CBI sources said, the raids began at about 7 AM when a team over 10 agency sleuths simultaneously  entered both the premises. Besides Kalmadi, the premises of his Personal Secretary Manoj Bhure were also being searched by the CBI.

A team of 8 CBI officials carried the search operations at Kalmadi’s residence located on the 14th floor in Bheema Apartments at Worli and his office at Lower Parel. Though Suresh Kalmadi’s  brother Mukesh Kalmadi resides in the flat, but no family member were seen to be present during the raid.

The raids come days after it was reported that some of the crucial documents which could throw light on the Game’s deals have gone missing. The agency has so far filed three FIRs in connection with the alleged irregularities in CWG and searched the residences of OC Director General V.K. Verma and secretary general Lalit Bhanot on the 30th of November.

The CBI had recently written to the Cabinet Secretary apprising him about the need to move out Kalmadi and his deputy Lalit Bhanot from their posts as they were proving to be a roadblock in their investigations. Reacting on the development, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said all involved in the CWG scam should be punished.

On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said the CBI is pursuing the case and BJP has no moral right to speak on corruption as they have not acted on the Karnataka chief minister against whom there are similar charges.
