THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) R B Sreekumar has alleged the SIT headed by former CBI chief R K Raghavan probing Gujarat riots has actually functioned as a B-team of Gujarat police.
Talking to news persons here he said: "None of the evidence provided by me have been considered by the SIT for reasons best known to them,".
He said that the special investigation team, which has reportedly exonerated the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, from any role in the communal bloodshed of 2002, had followed the “road map” of the state police in its probe.
Sreekumar, who said his “sources” had also confirmed that the SIT had absolved Modi, added that many riot victims had complained to him that the team headed by R.K. Raghavan was functioning as the “B-team” of the Gujarat police.
The former DGP had courted controversy by testifying against the Modi government before the Nanavati commission, following which his promotions were blocked.
Sreekumar said that he had submitted six affidavits to the SIT in 2008 with solid proof of the culpability of authorities in the communal riots but they had not been examined at all.
He said that even after the riots, the government machinery, including the police, civic authorities and officials deliberately worked against the riot victims. “It will be difficult to believe that Modi was not aware of all this,” he stressed.
The former DGP also reminded that the Supreme Court had termed the authorities of Gujarat as “Neros” and decided to transfer cases to Maharashtra.
