NEW DELHI: (AMN) The opposition disrupted both the hoses of parliament for the second day on Thursday on the issue of corruption The din led to the adjournment of both the houses for the day. Both the houses would now meet on Monday. The opposition was demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe by into various scams including the 2G Spectrum, corruption in the Commonwealth Games projects and Adharsh Housing Society scam.
The two houses were adjourned within minutes after they assembled for the day, first till noon and then for the day. The trouble started right from the moment, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha met for the day with the BJP-led opposition members up on their feet and many of them trooping into the well of the house.
In between some of the Congress members, agitated over the reported remarks by RSS leader K. Sudarshan on the UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, were also rushed towards the well of the house shouting slogans against RSS. Heated exchanges were also witnessed between the opposition and the treasury benches.
The BJP had given enough indications yesterday itself that it will not allow the Parliament to run unless its demand for JPC probe into various scams was met. And that there was no change in their stand was evident from the moment they entered the two Houses of Parliament this morning. In fact even before the Presiding Officer had entered the Lok Sabha the opposition members were up on their feet and trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans to press their demand. Similar scenes were witnessed in Rajya Sabha.
No to opposition demand
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister P.K. Bansal has rejected the opposition demand for a probe by the JPC into corruption cases saying it could not be accepted. Describing the demand for JPC as wrong, Bansal said that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), headed by the senior BJP leader, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, has to see the CAG report on the 2G Spectrum before it is submitted to Parliament. He said that the issue is also before the Supreme Court. He said the government is equally concerned about corruption, but there is a process for everything, after which the guilty can be brought to book.
Holding BJP responsible for adjournments and disruptions in both the houses, Bansal said that their conduct amounts to demeaning the Parliamentary decorum.
