In commemoration of the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2023 and as part of the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Embassy of India in Riyadh organized a grand event at Al Madi Park. With the theme “Yoga for Vasudaiva Kutumbakam,” the celebration aimed to promote the universal message of yoga and its significance in achieving holistic well-being.

Gracing the occasion, Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, delivered a warm welcome address, emphasizing the need to incorporate yoga into daily life. He also shed light on two novel initiatives introduced by the Government of India as part of the ongoing IDY 2023 celebrations worldwide, namely “Yoga from Arctic to Antarctic” and the “Ocean Ring of Yoga.”

As the chief guest, Padma Shri awardee Guruji Dr. H.R. Nagendra, Hon’ble Chancellor of Svyasa University, shared his profound insights into the transformative power of yoga. Joining him was Dr. Manjunath Sharma, Hon’ble Pro Vice-Chancellor & Director of Research at Svyasa University, who graced the event with his presence, further adding to the event’s significance.

The event commenced with a Yoga prayer, followed by a demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol. Attendees were then guided through Pranayamam and Meditation exercises, showcasing the tranquility and focus that yoga cultivates. Adding artistic flair to the event, students from Vaidehi Nirtha Vidyalaya and Chilanka Dance Academy delivered captivating yoga-themed dance performances, captivating the audience.

The event saw a diverse gathering, including Indian Embassy officials and their families, members of the Indian community, school students, and teachers from various schools in Saudi Arabia. Notably, Saudi nationals and representatives from other invited nationalities also participated, reflecting the inclusive spirit of yoga.

To acknowledge the invaluable contributions and support received, Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and Deputy Chief of Mission Shri. N. Ram Prasad presented mementos to the event’s sponsors, dance groups, yoga practitioners, and the medical support team. This gesture highlighted the collaborative efforts that made the celebration a resounding success.

With the Embassy of India in Riyadh leading the way, the event exemplified the spirit of unity, health, and harmony promoted by yoga, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and fostering a deeper appreciation for this ancient practice.
