NEW DELHI: (TIA)The government has made elaborate security arrangement for Commonwealth Games-2010 to begin on Sunday. Helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles will be keep a hawks eye carry out aerial recce of the games village and stadia at regular intervals. Over a hundred thousand security personnel including the 3000 gun trotting commandos have been deployed to thwart any threat to the mega affair. 100 anti sabotage teams, 200 special trained and more than a dozen bomb disposal squads have been kept alert to meet any eventuality. 150 personnel of the Delhi Police’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) have been trained by the Indian Air Force and the NSG to shoot down suspicious manned or unmanned ‘flying objects’.
Home minister P. Chidrambram on Friday said that though there was no intelligence input to pinpoint any specific threat yet the government was taking no chances and the security is geared to meet any challenge. Home Minister himself inspected the Commonwealth games village to take stock of the security arrangement.
The Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said an unprecedented security has been put in place in the capital. “That a multi layered and multi dimensional arrangement has been made after thorough examination of all aspects”.
