Twelve people were killed after Israel launched air strikes against the militant group Islamic Jihad in Gaza. According to a report by the AFP news agency, the Israeli army said it targeted three leaders of Islamic Jihad and hit weapons manufacturing sites belonging to the group.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army instructed its citizens within 40 kilometers of Gaza to enter bomb shelters. This comes as previous strikes on the Islamic Jihad group have sparked barrages of rockets on Israeli civilians.

In a statement, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement confirmed that three of its leaders were killed and several injured, including women and children. Israel and Gaza militants have fought multiple wars since Hamas took control of the Palestinian enclave in 2007.
