The Governor of Jammu & Kashmir N.N. Vohra also present. Ansari visited the Institute and showed keen interest in the various activities of the Institute. He interacted with the young mountaineers and the faculty members. He also witnessed the adventure activities of them and later on had a Group Photograph with them and the faculty members.
He was briefed by the Principal of the Institute Col. Virinder Singh about the various activities of the Institute viz. Promotion of adventure activities; Impart training on technical aspects of Mountaineering; Hone mountaineering skills; Creation of Environment awareness amongst youith; Undertake rescue operations/search missions; and Character building.
Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports, Pahalgam was established in 1983. Defence Minister is the President and Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir is the Vice President of the Institute.
Later the Vice President was briefed on the “Management of Protected areas and Conservation & Preservation of Biodiversity” by the Conservator (Forests), J&K M.A. Tak during his visit to the Dachigam National Park – Abode for Peerless Red Deer of the Globe “Hangul” in Srinagar today.
He showed keen interest in the various activities going on in the National Park. Besides this he was also briefed on the world famous high variety “Trout fish” and its treasure farm within the National Park on the occasion. The Governor of Jammu & Kashmir N.N. Vohra and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were also present.
The Dachigam National Park is not only one of the important Protected Area Network of the State of Jammu & Kashmir but its uniqueness of flora and fauna, its richness and diversity, its grandeur landscape and geomorphologic significance, its seasonal glory and snow clad mountains, its vast pastures and gushing waters and above all its proximity to a populated capital city makes it important “Biodiversity Area” of the nation and hot spot world over.
