The Sensex and the Nifty on Wednesday gained more than 0.8 percent. Both indices rose amid mixed cues from the global share markets. The Sensex closed above the 57,500 mark while the Nifty settled above the 17,100 level. The Sensex climbed 479 points, or 0.84 percent, to finish at 57,626. The Nifty also surged 140 points, or 0.82 percent, to end at 17,124.
In the forex market, the rupee appreciated marginally by one paisa against the US dollar. The domestic currency was closed at 82 rupees and 31 paise against the American Unit.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Gold futures for December was trading at 50,990 rupees per ten grams. Silver futures for December was trading at 57,680 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
Oil recovered some losses from a two percent slide in the previous session. In intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading at 94 dollars and 80 cents per barrel.
