The Haryana government has stopped drug production at a manufacturing plant of Maiden Pharmaceuticals in Sonipat. This comes a week after the World Health Organisation alerted that as many as 66 children in the Gambia may have died after consuming the cough syrups, made by the company. Major irregularities were found at the production facilities of Maiden Pharmaceuticals.
Speaking to the media, Haryana’s Health Minister Anil Vij said, samples of the three drugs mentioned by WHO were sent to the Central Drug Lab in Kolkata. Mr. Vij said, the reports are awaited and action will be taken based on them. He added that a joint inspection by the Central and Haryana state drug departments found around 12 flaws in the manufacturing units and it was therefore decided that production at the facilities be stopped.
