Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh sent a condolence letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressing her profound condolences to the government and the people of India at the death of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, reports the official news agency BSS. In her letter Prime Minister Hasina said that the people of Bangladesh mourn in solidarity with the people of India in this hour of grief.

Calling Lata Mangeshkar a cultural icon and a legend, Prime Minister Hasina said that she was one of the most accomplished artists of all time. With her extraordinarily melodious voice she sang innumerable songs in different languages, including in Bangla touching the hearts of millions of people in this region and beyond, said Prime Minister Hasina.

She said that her Bangla songs are an integral part of the treasure trove of Bangla culture.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled with respect and gratitude the role played by Lata Mangeshkar in the liberation war of Bangladesh. She said Lataji alongwith her fellow Indian artists contributed immensely towards promoting the cause of Bangladesh among the people of India during the liberation war.
