Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju has said the Government is committed to fill the vacancies in higher judiciary by following due diligence and the well laid procedures. Answering questions in the Lok Sabha on Friday, he said there are various factors involved in the process including the Collegiums’ decisions.

Mr Rijiju asserted that the speed of filling up vacancies in the Supreme Court and the High Courts is the fastest ever now if the data in the past many decades is taken into account.

The minister appealed to budding lawyers to inculcate the spirit of free legal aid to enable the poor to avail judicial remedies at affordable cost. He said the Government cannot put a cap on the legal fees being charged by eminent advocates, though it has established free legal aid programmes across the country.

Mr Kiren Rijiju said the Mediation Bill, 2021 and the envisaged National Mediation Policy will have comprehensive measures to make the mediation process very effective and affordable for all.
