Moderate to heavy snow and rainfall continued on Saturday in Jammu and KashmirF resulting in disruption in both aerial and surface transport. While most of the Valley and hilly areas of Jammu division received snow, the plains of Jammu division received rains since Friday evening. Owing to the continuous precipitation in most parts of the Union Territory, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a ‘red warning’ and asked the residents to avoid visiting hilly areas.

In a statement, the MeT centre said that the weather is likely to improve from January 9 onwards. Meanwhile, the aerial traffic at Srinagar International Airport remained suspended as no flight could take off or land since morning due to poor visibility caused by the bad weather. Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh National Highways also remained suspended. The Northern Railway authorities suspended the Baramullah-Banihal rail service for today due to accumulation of snow on the rail tracks.
