At least 108 people were reportedly killed in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Rai, with a wind speed of about 195km/hour hit the country’s south-eastern islands. Rescue and relief efforts are on in the typhoon-hit areas. Rescue team sources said that the exact loss of life and property can not be ascertained as communication to a number of areas has been cut off due to the flooding and landslide caused by the typhoon. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an emergency appeal seeking 20 million Swiss francs to fund long-term relief efforts.
