The Kerala High Court yesterday quashed a criminal case registered by the Police under the Foreigners Act against two Pakistani nationals who came to Kochi on a valid medical visa. The court also directed the Police to issue them clearance certificates within three days to enable them to travel back to Karachi via Chennai. The Pak nationals, Imran Mohammed along with his attendant Ali Asghar could not leave the country from Chennai airport earlier, due to lack of police clearance certificate after their treatment in Kochi.

When approached for the certificate, the Kerala Police registered a criminal case against them. Quashing the criminal case, the court observed that such action brought ignominy to the country’s policing system. It said, the ground for the registration of the crime was totally unfounded and illegal. The court noted that when foreign nationals are involved, officers should show a little more sensibility and act cautiously.
