The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed two crore 56 lakh 90 thousand. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that 71 per cent of these doses have been administered at public health facilities and around 29 per cent doses at private centers. He said, more than 67 lakh 86 thousand people above 60 years and people aged 45 to 60 years with specific co-morbidities were vaccinated till date.

Mr Bhushan said, the rise in active cases is taking place, after touching its lowest mark in mid-February. He said, in the last one month, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have shown a decline, while Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana are showing a rise in the number of active cases.

The Health Secretary said, in the first 53 days from 16th January this year, India has administered two crore 56 lakh 90 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccine. While in Brazil one crore 13 lakh, Turkey one crore and in the UK 94 lakh 70 thousand vaccine doses have been administered in this period.
