At least 21 people were killed and many injured when a roof collapsed at a crematorium in Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar on Sunday.
38 others were rescued from the debris.
“21 people have died so far while 38 people have been rescued after a shed collapsed in Muradnagar. We’ve started a probe & we’ll take strict action against those found guilty,” Anita C Meshram, Meerut Divisional Commissioner, said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and instructed officials to conduct relief operations and submit a report.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and other leaders expressed grief and offered their condolences to the families of the deceased persons.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also expressed sorrow on the incident and has announced financial assistance of two lakh rupees each to the nearest kin of the each deceased. The Chief Minister has instructed Divisional Commissioner of Meerut and ADG Police Meerut Zone to inspect the incident site and submit a detailed report to the government. He said, all possible help will be provided to those affected by the incident. Governor Anandiben Patel has also expressed sorrow on the incident.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also expressed grief over the incident. In a tweet, Mr Singh expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. He also, prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
