The UP Government made a record by paying more than one lakh crore in just three years to the sugar cane farmers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today transferred 418 crore rupees in the account of the sugar cane farmers.

This is the highest amount paid by any government in this time span to the sugar cane farmers. In the previous regime of the Akhilesh Yadav, 95 thousand 215 crore rupees were paid to the farmers in total five years.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that When lockdown started and the whole world including our country was going for complete shutdown, everyone was thinking that what will happen to the sugar mills and sugar cane farmers, but we not only contained the spread of virus but also continued functioning of the mills.

He said that Uttar Pradesh Government decided that no sugar mill will stop running in lockdown and made arrangement of its smooth functioning.

A total of 119 sugar mills were functioning without any interruption during lockdown. Every sugar mill in the state is providing employment also to 10 thousand persons and indirectly benefitting 25 to 40 thousand farmers. Today, Uttar Pradesh is number one in production of sugar and sugar cane. Currently, five lakh litres of sanitizer is being procured and the state is supplying it to 28 states and even to other countries also.

Nineteen sugar mills in the state were shut down Between 2007 to 2012 and after the new regime in 2017 more than one dozen new sugar mills have restarted their work.
