The Maharashtra Government has issued show cause notices to four private hospitals for not abiding to the state’s directives to provide 80 per cent beds in their hospitals to treat the Covid-19 patients. Last month, the Mumbai civic body had decided to acquire 80 per cent beds of private hospitals for a period of 90 days. These beds are to be used for both Covid and non-Covid patients.

The decision to issue show cause notices to four private hospitals was taken after state health minister Rajesh Tope’s surpise visit to these hospitals late last night. The government had received several complaints from people after these hospitals failed to provide specified beds for the treatment of Covid and non-Covid patients. The hospitals which have been issued show cause notices are all high profile hospitals namely Hinduja, Bombay, Jaslok, and Lilavati hospitals.

Meanwhile, state forest minister Sanjay Rathod has directed the officials of his department to make 30 monkeys available to conduct test on the vaccine developed by the National Institute of Virology, Pune. A state government official said that a research to develop SARS COV-2 vaccine has been undertaken by NIV, Pune and it needs 30 monkeys for conducting tests.
