The Centre today said that it will treat Novel Coronavirus in India as a notified disaster for the purpose of providing assistance under the State Disaster Response Fund, SDRF. World Health Organization, WHO has already declared Coronavirus as a pandemic.

The Home Ministry, in a letter to State Chief Secretaries, said, in case of death of a person Rs. four lakh will be paid to the families of victims including those involved in relief operations or associated in response activities. The cost of hospitalization for managing COVID-19 patients will be at the rates fixed by State Governments.

In case of the procurement of essential equipment, the expenditure will be incurred only from the SDRF and not the National Disaster Response Fund, NDRF.

More than 80 cases of the Coronavirus have been reported in the country. Two people have died so far including one each in Karnataka and Delhi.

PM Modi shares Health Ministry’s guidelines on home quarantine on Twitter

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took to Twitter to share the Health Ministry’s guidelines on home quarantine. He urged people to read important information. The Health Ministry said, home quarantine is meant to protect people and their loved ones.

According to the guidelines, those quarantined at home should stay in a well-ventilated single-room, preferably with an attached or separate toilet. If another family member needs to stay in the same room, it’s advisable to maintain a distance of at least a metre between the two.

Quarantined individuals must stay away from the elderly, pregnant women, children and persons with comorbidities within the household as their immunity may be low.
