Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra passed away at a hospital in New Delhi today. He was 82 and unwell for some time.

Mishra was a three-time Chief Minister of the State. He was also the last Congress Chief Minister of the State. He was a Cabinet Minister at the Centre as well.

His brother Lalit Narayan Mishra was Railway Minister at the Centre during Indira Gandhi’s regime as Prime Minister.

Before joining politics, Mishra was an economics professor at Bihar University. He also authored several books. Later, he quit the Congress and joined the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Janata Dal (United) too.

Mishra was an accused in the multi-crore fodder scam case but was acquitted recently by a court in Ranchi.

His son Nitish Mishra was a Minister in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet.
