Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal said that the Congress and Left parties are misleading people on Citizenship Amendment bill. Addressing a rally of the newly elected BJP panchayat members here today, Mr. Sonowal said that Congress, Left as well as Asom Gana Parishad are misleading people without knowing the facts.

The Chief Minister said that there is no such clause in the Citizenship Amendment bill that only Assam have to give shelter to the Hindu Bangladeshi citizens. He further said that as per the provisions, minority people of the neighbouring countries including Bangladesh could stay anywhere in the country if they could fulfil the required conditions.

The Chief Minister assured that the BJP government would ensure the rights of the indigenous people in Assam. He urged people not to believe in the misleading campaign of the opposition regarding the Citizenship Amendment bill. He also appealed All Assam Students Union to extend cooperation in implementing the Clause Six of the Assam Accord to protect the rights of the indigenous people.

Attending the event, senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the BJP government at the Centre and in the state would ensure that the rights of the indigenous people would be protected. Meanwhile, Congress and Asom Gana Parishad today protested separately against the bill.
