Ten pilgrims were died in a road accident near Tirumayam in Pudukkottai today. Eight of them died on the spot and two succumbed to injuries later. Five are admitted to a nearby Government hospital with serious injuries.

They are identified to be from Methak district of Telengana. After worshipping at the Sri Ayyapppa Temple in Sabarimala, they visited Rameswaram and were returning. While coming near Tirumayam, a trailer truck is said to have rammed into the van.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar and district officials visited the injured at the hospital and also inspected the location of the accident. The police have registered a case
