AMN / NEW DELHI
Winter Session of Parliament will begin on December 11, 2019 and it will run till January 8.
This was decided by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Talking to media, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel said eight important bills are to be passed in Rajya Sabha and fifteen in Lok Sabha. He said the government is ready to discuss every issue.
This would be the last full-fledged Parliament session of the Modi government prior to the Lok Sabha election.
The Assembly election results, the controversy over the Rafale deal and the Ram temple debate are likely to cast a shadow on parliamentary proceedings.
Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram are going to the polls.
There will be 20 working days during the session. Usually, the winter session begins in the third week of November and ends before Christmas. The first day of the session is likely to be adjourned to pay tribute to former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee, who passed away recently.
“We seek the support and cooperation of all parties for the smooth functioning of Parliament during the session,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Goel said.
Triple talaq Bill
The government would push for the passage of the triple talaq Bill pending in the Rajya Sabha. It had promulgated an ordinance to make instant triple talaq a penal offence.
The government wants the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance to be passed in this session.
