UNION Sports Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore has said that the Government is connecting the Villages of the country to Olympic podiums through schemes like Khelo India as 90 per cent of the Indian athletes is from rural background.

In an interview to AIR News, Mr Rathore said, the Centre is focusing on training, travel, coaches, scientific support of the athletes.

He said, from September last year over 200 athletes are getting pocket allowance of 50 thousand rupees per month.

Expressing happiness on the success of girl athletes in the recently held Asian Games, the Minister said, he had never seen such brilliant attitude of the young Indian Girl athletes which was demonstrated during the games.

The Minister said, young Indian sportspersons got medals at the Asian games and their huge potential was reflected in the performance.

Mr Rathore thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the Prime Minister created a believe that there will be no shortage of resources for the sportspersons.
