Delhi High Court Bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and A.K. Chawla declined to grant any relief to Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, on his petition seeking directions against the IT Department in the National Herald matter.
A bench of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice A.K. Chawla also rejected Rahul Gandhi`s counsel plea seeking restraint on publishing news by various media organisations on the case.
Rahul has moved the court challenging a notice issued against him by Income Tax Department seeking to re-open his tax assessment for financial year 2011-12 related to the transactions between National Herald and Young India Pvt Ltd (YI).
The IT Department had decided to reopen the tax assessment of 2011-2012 with regard to transactions of Young Indian and Associated Journals Ltd in the National Herald assets matter. Senior Advocate Arvind P Datar gave submissions for Rahul Gandhi and Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represented the IT Department. The next date of hearing is the 14th August.
