AT LEAST  seven security personnel were killed and many injured in a Maoist attack near Cholanar village of Dantewada district this evening, according to police.

The attack took place when a joint team of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force and the District Force was travelling to a road-construction site near Cholanar. The ultras blew off their vehicle by detonating an Improvised Explosive Device.

Six personnel died on the spot while one died during treatment at the hospital. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in a tweet, condoled the loss of lives in the Maoist attack. He said, his thoughts are with the bereaved families of the martyred police personnel.

 

Chief Minister Raman Singh has termed the attack cowardly and said it exposed the rebels’ anti-people and anti-development mindset. He said, police personnel have sacrificed their lives while guarding a road construction site and their sacrifice will always be remembered.
