Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the misguided youths to shun violence and join the national mainstream.
Addressing a function in Srinagar today, PM Modi said there is no alternative to peace and stability. Prime Minister said every stone or weapon picked by the misguided youth-led Jammu and Kashmir to the path of instability.
Mr Modi dedicated to the nation the 330-MW Krishenganga power project. Speaking on the occasion, he said, Jammu and Kashmir has the potential not only to generate electricity to meet its own needs but also to provide power to other parts of the country.
Prime Minister said the government is making efforts to ensure that all households in the state are electrified.
Mr Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Srinagar Ring Road. The 42.1-km, four-lane Srinagar Ring Road, will link Galandar in west Srinagar to Sumbal in Bandipora district and reduce traffic congestion.
Prime Minister was on a one-day visit to the state’s three regions – Leh, Kashmir and Jammu.
In Leh, Mr Modi launched the construction of Zojila tunnel to provide all-weather connectivity to Ladakh. The 14-km Zojila tunnel will be India’s longest road tunnel.
It will cut down the time taken to cross the Zojila pass from the present three-and-a-half hours to just 15 minutes.
The Prime Minister also attended the closing ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations of the 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. He said the Buddhist leader distinguished himself as an outstanding diplomat.
Mr Modi said, during his Mongolia visit, he witnessed the goodwill Bakula Rinpoche has in that country.
In Jammu, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a 1,000 MW hydroelectric power project. Pakal Dul Hydro Electric Project is being built on the tributary of the Chenab river in far-flung Kishtwar district. It is expected to be completed in over five years at an estimated cost of 8,112 crore rupees.
Mr Modi also laid the foundation stone of ring road project in Jammu. The road project is being built at an estimated cost of 2,024 crore rupees. The 58.25 km-long road project will be constructed between Raya Morh-Vijaypur in Samba district and Jagti-Nagrota in Jammu district.
Mr Modi also inaugurated the Tarakote Marg and Material Ropeway which will prove beneficial for Vaishno Devi pilgrims.
