The All-Party Meeting chaired by Jammu & Kashmir Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti here gave a unanimous call for a cessation of hostilities for creating a congenial and peaceful atmosphere on ground in the Valley.

In the meeting it was decided to request the national leadership to consider and announce unilateral ceasefire in view of upcoming Ramadhan and Amaranth Yatra.

All the participants called for political outreach in Kashmir with a request to the national leadership to take a leaf out of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s 2002 initiatives.

The meeting was called in view of a fresh spurt in violence, including civilian killings in counter-militancy operations at various places in south Kashmir and Srinagar.

Ruling PDP, BJP and main opposition National Conference, Congress, CPIM, Peoples Democratic Front, Awami Ittehad Party, Samajwadi Party, Panthers Party, DPN, were among 13 mainstream political parties that participated in the Meet.

Official sources said civilian killings, peace and reconciliation process besides Agenda of Alliance were thrust issues that were discussed in the meeting.

All political parties vociferously voiced grave concern over the streak of civilian killings including that of young Chennai tourist in a stone pelting incident.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti told media after the meeting that it was unanimously decided to request the national leadership to consider and announce unilateral ceasefire in view of upcoming Ramadhan and Amaranth Yatra.

She called for all efforts including cessation of counter militant operations to maintain peaceful environment to ensure violence free Eid and Amarnath Yatra.

Mehbooba called for fulfilling all the promises made in the Agenda of Alliance to restore confidence among the people. She announced that All Party Delegation will meet the Prime Minister to apprise him on situation in Kashmir
