At least 14 people are feared drowned in a boat mishap in Krishna river at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada Sunday evening. The incident took place when the overloaded tourist boat capsized midway due to the weight of around 35 passengers.

Vijayawada District Collector said, 17 persons were rescued by NDRF and police forces. Search and rescue operation is still on.

An official said, the boat was making a trip from Punnami Ghat, Bhavanipuram, to Pavitra Sangamam, Ferry village.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and others expressed grief over the tragedy.

The deputy chief minister rushed to the accident spot to oversee the rescue operations and has directed police to rush additional force to help locate the missing persons.
