Heavy-rain-in-MumbaiEven as rains have subsidised in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra; abated rainfall is being seen in Western Maharashtra and Vidarbha regions. Rains have subsided in Nanded district after recording a rainfall of 77 mm in the last 24 hours. Intensity of rains has also decreased in Nashik, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.

Maharashtra’s Disaster Management Authority has informed that eight people have died in rain related incidents across the state in the last 36 hours. It further informs that heavy rains in last couple of days in Nashik, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Akola, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur districts have broken the record for average rainfall; while water level in various dams has increased substantially.

On the other hand, Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district continues to witness very heavy rains. Traffic along Kolhapur’s Karul Ghat that was affected after a landslide. Yavatmal too continues to experience heavy rains with many rivers flowing above the danger mark.

While rains have solved the water scarcity problem; such excessive rains have now affected sowing in the region. Meanwhile, heavy rains have been forecast for Konkan, north Central and South Central Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.
